Manic Monday

Something tragic happened today. Our wireless modem from AT&T died. It lived a long life...4.5 years. Daddy frantically went out to Best Buy to buy a new modem. We hope this one lasts a lot longer. I kept an eye on Daddy to make sure that he was connecting all the wires in just the right places. Once he finished with the wires, he had a tough time with the settings. Daddy had to call Netgear customer support. He talked to a lady from the Philippines. She told Daddy that he had a very nice accent. She was extremely nice and very helpful. Mommy kept asking, "What did we do before the internet?" I couldn't help her because I was born way after the internet was invented. We had to look through the phonebook for a phone number. When is the last time any of you had to do that? Once everything was up and running, I made sure that everything was in place. Doesn't it look nice next to our printer?

Week thirty six in the garden

First frost is quickly approaching. I thought I'd give Daddy a hand and see if there were any edible tomatoes to harvest today. I had to look long and hard but alas, I found one! Our tomato plants have a lot of spunk. It was once full of life and gave us an endless supply of beautiful red tomatoes. Now it is beginning to show the affects of the cold weather. The leaves are starting to dry out and die. There are lots of small green tomatoes. Mommy still doesn't know what to do with them.

Awards

We would like to thank Siku aka White Dog for this wonderful award and her oh so kind words. We are also very thankful for the special blessings in Blogland. It is very hard to choose just five friends to pass this on to. So here are the rules: pass this on to five of your friends. We would like to pass this on to:

Lorenza~we enjoy hearing about her adventures and just love seeing her new dresses.
Brownie~is a young pup full of life and fun.
Dory~Dory and Bilbo remind me of the love/hate brother/sister relationship.
Riley and Star~are such great dancers and have so much fun doing it.
Mack and Sally Ann~always make us smile and laugh.

We got this award from our friend Dory. Thank you for this special award. If you haven't met her and her brother Bilbo, please stop by their blog. They are fun loving friends. The only rule is to pass it on to as many friends as you like.

Fun on a Friday

I hope you've all recovered from all that turkey. We almost have...there are lots of leftovers so we'll be feasting a little while longer. We went back to Grandma and Grandpa's house today to have an oyster party. As soon as we arrived, it started raining so Mommy and Grandma ran into the house. Daddy and Grandpa stayed outside to bbq the oysters under a huge umbrella (Mommy calls them market umbrellas). Sierra and I stayed outside most of the time. We got WET! The humans said the oysters were delicious. Sierra and I only had a few bites. I thought they were pretty tasty. The rain stopped just in time for our walk. Uncle Bey Bey, Sierra, and I had a lot of fun walking on the wet grass and wet sidewalks.

Thankful Thursday

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!!! I hope everyone had a fun day filled with family, food, and fun. Daddy deep fried a turkey this year. Everyone said it was amazingly delicious. Sierra and I got our own plates. Turkey, Korean bbq, mashed potatoes, and sweet potatoes from our veggie garden. As soon as Daddy set down our plates, Sierra was business as usual. Breaking world records. I hadn't even taken a bite before she was done with her bbq beef. I hope she doesn't have too much gas later from scarfing down all that food.

Sierra's Scoop

Do you know why we have a wet nose? I thought I would share my favorite bed time story with you today, I hope you like it (from Taking the Lead).

When a man named Noah started building a boat out in the middle of the desert, everybody laughed. They thought he was crazy. But Noah wasn't listening to them, he was listening to God, who said to build a boat. So Noah built a boat. Noah called his boat an ark.

When he finished it, he rounded up all the animals, two-by-two to travel on his ark. People laughed at Noah's possums and panthers and penguins. They laughed at his cheetahs and chinchillas, giraffes and gazelles and rhinoceroses and hippopotamuses. Into the ark they went, two-by-two. Pretty soon, it started to rain.

It rained and it poured and it rained some more. People stopped laughing and the ark started floating. Noah and his family and all the animals two-by-two, rode safely on the waters. They sailed for 40 days and 40 nights. When the rains stopped, out of the ark came Noah and his family and all the animals two-by-two. All except one little dog. Noah searched everywhere. He looked on the first deck. He looked on the second deck then the third deck. Finally, in the farthest corner of the lowest deck he found the little dog.

The dog was shivering and standing with his nose pressed hard against the side of the boat. "Come here little dog" called Noah. "It's time to come out. Here doggie, doggie!" The little dog wouldn't move. Noah gently pulled him away. "What's this?" said Noah. "A hole in the ark. The ark could have sunk Little dog. You kept us safe - my family and all of the animals, two-by-two with your little nose...so all the world and all the generations will know your great deed, your nose will always be cold and wet, just as it is today." That's how the dog got his cold, wet nose. The next time when you feel your dog's nose, remember that little doggie who protected Noah, his family and all of the animals, two-by-two.

Marsh Creek Regional Wilderness Trail

Here are some photos from yesterday's hike. We passed an elementary school while we were on the trail. This was a special elementary school. Wanna know why? They had a petting zoo! We saw so many great animals! I wanted to to get close and meet them all but a fence stood in between us. We saw two horses and we were bummed that they weren't facing us. Mommy thought the Egret looked very serene standing in the creek. The bunny rabbit looked so cute and fluffy. The geese were busy keeping each other company. They hardly noticed we were there! The goat and the sheep were my favorite. They looked so friendly and furry. Mommy really wanted to pet them but that fence again!

Week thirty five in the garden

Thirty five weeks, friends. Can you believe it? We helped Daddy harvest the Japanese sweet potatoes today. We were all SO excited to see what was underneath all the dirt. We were very happy to find lots of Japanese sweet potatoes in all sorts of sizes. These sweet potatoes are so tasty. If you haven't tried them, I hope you try some soon. Grandma and Grandpa love these so we will be giving most of sweet potatoes to them. We also harvested our cantaloupe. We hope that it will be sweet. Mommy says we'll have it for breakfast tomorrow. We also harvested one tomato today. We hope it's not the last of them since we have a ton of green tomatoes left. We went on a great hike today. I'll leave you with one picture that Mommy took of me in the leaves. The more exciting photos will come tomorrow.

Today we...

...went to a family dinner at my auntie and uncle's house. Daddy's Grandma was there, Daddy's Daddy was there, Daddy's sisters and their families were there. One of my aunties and uncle have 2 fur babies in addition to their five daughters. They have an English Bulldog named Patches and a Beagle named Lolli. They are both super cute but Sierra and I are not allowed to play with them. Patches is very protective of Lolli (like a Mommy would be of her daughter). They stayed in a separate part of the house while we were there. Auntie and Uncle's new house has a HUGE backyard, close to an acre. We had so much fun running around in the HUGE field. For dinner the humans had lasagne, garlic bread, and salad. Sierra and I had our share too. There was an array of desserts but Mommy only let us have some of the pumpkin bars that she made. We had a blast today. The only bad thing was that Mommy forgot her camera.

Fun on a Friday...

Today was supposed to be a rainy day but it only rained for about an hour. Yippee! Sierra and I played in the yard a lot and we also rough housed inside until it got a little out of hand. One thing I have taught my sister is how to play rough. Every time we bump our noses it makes us sneeze and Mommy loves it. I don't know who was having more fun, my pawrents or my sister and me in our little grudge match.

P.S. I didn't let Sierra win this one.

Thankful Thursday

'Tis the season for generosity. Today I am thankful for friends who had gardens during the summer. Daddy brought home a pomegranate and several lemons. We hope that Daddy's friend will bring more pomegranates. They are so tasty. Mommy says they are good for you too. What is your favorite fruit?

Sierra's Scoop

Wow! We got a bunch of food from Azure Standard today including lots of tortilla chips. I really like chips. Chips with melted cheese, or with hummus, or even artichoke dip. I love crunchy food. The only problem with crunchy food is that it's so noisy. I can never get away with a stolen chip or cracker because as soon as I chomp down I'm busted.

We got...

...a new vacuum. This is our third Dyson. Before that we had a Bissell. That one didn't live as long as the Dyson vacuums did. Now Mommy and Daddy are thinking about taking the Dyson back. Not to worry friends, they haven't taken the monster out of the box. It's actually not that scary since it is contained in the box. Daddy has heard good things about the Oreck vacuum. The only problem is we don't know how well it does with pet hair. We shed a lot of hair so that vacuum monster needs to be pretty powerful. Can any of our fur coat shedding friends tell us what vacuums you have and how well it does with all the hair it has to eat up?

Week thirty four in the garden

Garden season is almost over. Daddy says that first frost should be coming soon. (I think I'm the only one excited about the colder weather). We harvested the sweet potatoes tonight. Look at all those roots. Wow!!! There are so many! There were lots of little sweet potatoes and several large and medium ones too. I smelled them to make sure they were sweet. I wonder what Mommy is going to make with them? I hope she puts them into our cookies. Maybe she'll make a sweet potato pie? Doesn't that sound yummy? Daddy harvested the onions tonight too...well what was supposed to be onions. Mommy says she'll use the tops of them. She says they're like green onions.

I feel like I'm cheating...

...on Netflix. We had my Grandpa over for dinner tonight. Afterwards the humans felt like watching a movie so Daddy ran out to pick up a movie from the Red Box. What's a Red Box, you say? It's a big red box where you can rent dvds for $1. Daddy picked G.I. Joe. It was a very noisy movie, not a moment without loud noises and screams. I like Netflix better because it has more movies for dogs, like Air Bud and Milo and Otis (my personal favorite). I let my Daddy have the day off from hiking so he could go golfing with his Daddy. I got grass fed filet mignon tonight. Wowee!!! It wasn't even my birthday. This Saturday turned out pretty great even though we didn't go for a hike. Don't worry friends, we did have a walkie.:)

Food for thought Friday

This is what my Mommy has been doing all day...sigh!

Thankful Thursday

Today I am thankful for pumpkins. Look at all these pumpkins. Mommy's good friend told her about a nursery that was giving away free pumpkins. We went to pick them up today. You might be wondering, "what is she going to do with all those pumpkins?" Mommy uses pumpkins or sweet potatoes in our cookies. They are my favorite! She will also be making lots of pumpkin pies, muffins, breads, bars, and cakes. I can hardly wait! On the way home we saw a HUGE St. Bernard and his little Chihuahua brother or sister. He is the biggest pup I've ever seen. What is the biggest pup you've ever seen?

A Tribute to my very first DWB friend, Hana

Tonight we found out that my dear friend, Hana, crossed the rainbow bridge on Friday. We are still in shock and Mommy had lots of tears. Hana was our first DWB friend and introduced us to so many of our special friends. We will miss you Hana. Please stop by Hana's blog to show her parents support and encouragement. Mommy says that sometimes there aren't words to ease someone's pain. We thought this song, Dancing with the Angels by Monk and Neagle was appropriate:

Memories surround me
But sadness has found me
I'd do anything for more time
Never before has someone meant more
And I can't get you out of my mind

There is so much that I don't understand
But I know...

You're dancing with the angels
Walking in new life
You're dancing with the angels
Heaven fills your eyes
Now that you're dancing with the angels

You had love for your family
Love for all people
Love for the Father, and Son
Your heart will be heard
In your unspoken words
Through generations to come

There is so much that I don't understand
But I know

We're only here for such a short time
So I'm gonna' stand up, shout out,
And sing Hallelujah
One day I'll see you again

A new toy

One of my favorite toys is the rabbit stuffie . They have long ears. They have a squeaky belly and squeaky feet. They have long whiskers like me. They are also very very soft. I had one a while ago but I destroyed it. Mommy knows how much I love rabbit stuffies and she bought one for me today. Sierra and I were both very excited about my new toy. We played with it while Mommy and Daddy worked out.
