Sierra's Scoop

Now that we have our tree, Daddy climbed into the attic and brought down all of our Christmas decorations. Today we are just testing strands of lights and placing decorations all over the inside of our house. Mommy was telling me to stay while Daddy took this photo. Great team work Pawrents, do you like my pose?

Week thirty five in the garden

First Frost is quickly approaching. Daddy has been checking the weather every single day. We've already covered our strawberries and this week we'll cover the rest of the garden. For now, our herbs are all doing very well. Our swiss chard and kale keep thriving. (Mommy and Daddy came home a little late today so we weren't able to get any garden pictures). But we do have this little beauty to share with you. Mommy has heard of people growing avocado trees by starting the tree themselves with just the pit. How cool is that? So she thought she'd give a try. After about 2 months, look what we have. We will continue to give it fresh water and nurture it so that it will one day bring us lots and lots of avocados.

Have any of your parents started a fruit tree from a seed?

The Saturday after Thanksgiving

Mommy and I were so tired that we fell asleep on the floor. After two full days of Thanksgiving festivities, we were completely wiped out. Who knew that cleaning, cooking, baking, entertaining, and eating could be so tiring? I think Mommy was crawling to bed but couldn't make it so she laid down here. And I thought I'd keep her warm since she didn't have a blankie. How did you spend your Saturday?

Happy Thanksgiving Take Two

Since Mommy and Daddy spent Thanksgiving Day with Daddy's family. Today was our turn with Mommy's family. Look at that turkey. Mommy has roasted many chickens but this was her first turkey. It turned out delicious.

The table is set.

We are SO ready for dinner to begin.

Daddy thought it would be fun to watch a movie. I wonder what Grandma and Great Auntie are talking about?

He picked "Little Monsters." Grandpa and Mommy's Cousins thought it was a great movie. (We missed our Great Uncle today since he was at work).

Even though there aren't any pictures to prove it, he food was delicious. Turkey, herbed mashed potatoes, green beans with onions and mushrooms, grilled asparagus, soaked buttermilk biscuits, and of course, Korean BBQ...oh my! Dessert was pumpkin pie and buttermilk apple pie. Mommy was quite busy all day. This was Mommy and Daddy's very first time hosting Thanksgiving dinner. It's hard to snap away with the camera when you're hosting. Maybe we'll get better at it next year.

Happy Thanksgiving

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with lots of turkey and other goodies.

After a long walkie, Mommy and Daddy went to Auntie Laura's house to spend Thanksgiving with Daddy's side of the family. Sierra and I had to stay home since they have pups who don't like to be around other pups. Mommy made to take lots of pictures so we wouldn't feel left out. Look at all that yummy food.

These were just two of the pies that were there. There were tons more.

Look at the size of those Reese's peanut butter cups. They were as big as bowls.

And look at their pretty kitty, Molly. Mommy thought she was just beautiful.

Sierra's Scoop

Happy Tuesday, everyone. It's Sierra! O.M.G. I have to say, I love carrots. I don't care what size they are either. I like big ones fresh out of the ground and the little baby ones from the store. To keep us healthy and trim, Teddy and I get a few carrots every night with our dinner. For dessert I am thinking maybe Mommy can whip up some carrot cookies. I would go bonkers for carrot cookies wouldn't you?

Hmmm...

why are there so many yellow leaves on the ground? I know Mommy thinks they're pretty. I know Daddy thinks they're a mess. I guess Sierra and I will be helping to pick up leaves this weekend. Now I know why they call this season Fall...because everything falls! Ha!

Week thirty four in the garden

Look at what we call Sunday fun. Working in the garden was our playtime activity today. Sierra and I helped dig up dirt while Daddy pulled out some remnants of our once plentiful garden. Their are a few things still growing despite all this muggy weather. Mommy is already planning for Spring and wanting Daddy to mix in our compost into the topsoil. The best part was finally putting up a row cover for our strawberry plants. Good job Daddy, it looks great! Now where are the strawberries?

See what happens...

when I come inside after being outside for a long time? I just wanted to quickly say hi to Mommy and then go back outside again. But...I guess she had other plans. As soon as I jumped up onto the couch, Mommy said her feet were cold. She thought it'd be fun to cover me up too. Of course, I gave her the look. You know the look. The look of..."hey, Mommy, I never, ever get cold." Next thing you know, Daddy's reaching for the camera and then the photo shoot began. Yes, I was a good boy and endured the heat from the blanket. As soon as we were done, I got some treats and I went back outside. Oh happy day!!!

Since we don't...

...have much of Fall here in California, Mommy found this lovely picture online. She dreams of one day being in a place where she can witness the beauty of Fall in person. The vibrant colors, the crunching sound of fallen leaves, and the crisp air...ahhhh, we're that much closer to Winter. Do you get to witness the beauty of the leaves changing where you live?

Whatcha doin'...

with those herbs, Mommy?

Oh, herbed buttermilk biscuits. We can't wait to try them with the clam chowder. All this cold weather is great for yummy soups paired with yummy biscuits. Sierra and I love all the meaty soups. How about you?

Sierra's Scoop

Here birdie birdie, tweet tweet, it's all safe in my yard. Happy Tuesday, everyone...it's Sierra. I am on kitty patrol. Teddy had the early shift so now it's my turn. I am checking all the known places kitties can be found. You can count on Teddy and Sierra to protect our territory. We sleep with one eye open so we'll be out here all through the night and again tomorrow because there is nothing better than the Pup Patrol.

What the what?

Hey Sierra, do you smell what I smell? I think the feline from next door was here in these leaves and I bet he was up to no good. I wonder if Mr. Cat knows anything about all the little feathers strewn around? I wish we didn't have a fence that held us back. We would patrol our entire territory. Our front and back yards would be completely safe. Poor Mommy saw the remnants of a birdie today and she freaked out. Oh, Mr. Kitty...please stop scaring Mommy.

Week thirty three in the garden

Come on, San Marzanos...I've got my paws crossed for you. Please turn red before First Frost comes.

We still have lots of cherry tomatoes that need to be harvested.

How long do you think we'll have to wait for these oranges?

Would anyone like to come over for some kale?

We hope you all had a great weekend!

Today Mommy was...

...looking through the bazillion photos in her computer box. She watched a few videos of me when I was a wee little pup. Back then I was living with Grandma and Grandpa. Mommy would come over after work every day just to see me. And that's why they call it...puppy love.

Happy Veteran's Day...

to all the brave men and women who have fought, who are fighting, and who will fight for our country. This is our favorite Vet, our dear cousin, Jennifer. She is currently in Afghanistan serving our country. We pray for her daily and can't wait to have her home!

Thursday, November 10, 2011

There I was...

...enjoying an afternoon nap on the lawn. All of a sudden, I heard something scaling our fence. Of course I had to defend Teddy's Territory and started barking uncontrollably. Mommy came out to see what was going on. The KITTY had already taken off but she got this great shot of me in mid bark. I hope the KITTY comes back soon so we can play.

Sierra's Scoop

Happy Tuesday, everyone. It's Sierra! Looks like Mommy caught me napping under the dinner table again. I was dreaming about dinner all day long. Everyone is talking about the time change...luckily for me Daylight Savings isn't that hard to get used to. I am always hungry so it doesn't matter if we Spring forward or Fall back. Do any of you have a problem getting used to the time change?

Monday, November 7, 2011

Guess who...

learned to "look pretty" in just a matter of days. Ha! Mommy and Daddy weren't too sure about this one. They thought I wouldn't get it. Silly pawrents, tricks are for kids. What's next? Hmmmm. Do you have any cool tricks that we should learn?

Week thirty two in the garden

Look who's starting to look more like an orange.

Our experience with chives has told us that they thrive in the winter. We'll have our paws crossed that this herb will have doubled in size by Spring.

Parsley is the herb that keeps going and going and going....

What should Mommy make with the swiss chard? Do you have any suggestions?

Mommy told me she'll be using a ton of kale tomorrow to make zuppa toscana.

The cherry tomatoes are still growing. We hope to harvest a few more before First Frost.

A gift basket for me!

Look what we received as a gift today. Our friend Janis gave these to us today in the hopes Mommy is gonna make some Pomegranate jam. Daddy said I better be careful because these things stain and I don't want to look like a red Eskie. But I wonder if I ate too much of this fruit, would I turn into a red Pom Pom (Pomeranian)?

Friday, November 4, 2011

Today's harvest

Look what we picked from our garden today! A beautiful watermelon, a cantaloupe, one carrot, and lots of bell peppers. I hope we get to cut into the watermelon for dessert tonight. We've heard there is snow waiting for us at our cabin. We hope we can go see the white stuff really, really soon.

Thursday, November 3, 2011

Bye Bye San Marzanos

We had quite a wind storm today. There was lots of whistling and howling going on outside. Our San Marzano tomato plant wasn't strong enough to withstand the fierce winds. We're thankful that the rest of our garden is okay. How was the weather for you today?

Sierra's Scoop

I know Mommy used hot water and a soapy sponge to wash these dishes but I was hoping for one more taste of the yummy dinner she cooked tonight. I still smell the mushrooms and sausage right here on this spoon...too bad it doesn't taste like mushrooms and sausage. Maybe the smell of Mommy's dinner is just lingering around in my head. I can't wait for tomorrow when we have the leftovers.
