Week thirty four in the garden

While we were visiting Grandpa's house this weekend we were admiring  how well his garden is doing so we wanted share it with you. His girlfriend Janice is the real gardener of the house and you can tell she has been hard at work. She is growing an impressive row of green onions, so many she gave us a bunch to take home.

We also brought home some green bell peppers  from the huge bell pepper bush.

We forgot to ask what kind of squash was in this cute little cloth hammock.  If anyone recognizes the variety please share what you think.

These collard greens are super lush and healthy.  Janice loves to put these greens in all sorts of her dishes. Mommy and Daddy raved about her collard green soup the time she made it for them.  Janice has built a beautiful  garden this year  and has even bigger plans for next year.  We love backyard gardens like this one because everything is not only delicious but also nutritious.

Week twenty four in the garden

We have another red mini bell pepper!!! There are about ten peppers that have yet to change color.
This pomegranate tree needs to go into the ground. We're having a tough time finding the pawfect place.
We didn't have room to plant sweet potatoes this year. The slips are doing so well that we're wondering if there is a way to keep them alive until next May/June.
We harvested the onions and they are ready to go into tomato night's dinner.

We've been harvesting loads and loads of tomatoes. Mommy needs to get busy roasting them.
Our cucumber plants look great but we've yet to see a cucumber.
Look who finally turned red this week. We're so excited about our first mini bell pepper.

Week six in the garden

We've been hard at work in our garden. Planting French Breakfast Radishes, Purple Top White Globe Turnips, and some Bull's Blood Beets is just the tip of the iceberg.

We also transplanted a couple of San Marzano Tomato plants and they look great. Mommy hasn't decided where to put this Zucchini Black Beauty so Daddy transplanted it into a pot for now.

You wouldn't know by looking, but Mommy harvested a bunch of the Kale Blue Curled Scotch today. The De Cicco Broccoli is also growing just fine with out any help from us. Who can forget about the onions, I can smell them as soon as I step outside.

The Italian Parsley is finally getting greener so it should start becoming more fragrant too. After we covered the Chives with plastic to protect them from a storm they have been looking better than ever. I guess they liked the warmth in side the mini greenhouse tunnel cover.

Daddy was dipping the seed Yukon Gold Potatoes in wood ash to callous them before planting. Daddy is creating a tower of potatoes that is sure to to grow tons of the yummy earth apples. So stay tuned we will be sharing some pictures soon.

Week five in the garden

We have tomatoes, peppers, and squash growing under a fluorescent light and they are looking good.

Our tunnel covers have really worked good when we have needed them.

Daddy is warming up the soil for our carrots, beets and radishes.

The onions are doing well we but need to plant more.

Mommy can't wait for the broccoli to grow.

Of course the Kale is simply amazing. Super healthy in so many ways.

Chives go with so many dishes. Mommy is glad they are finally taking off.

The parsley has been getting greener and greener.

Today Daddy planted more garlic to fill in any empy spots in our few rows growing.

What's cooking...

...in the kitchen? I can definitely smell something scrumptious. What is it, Mommy?

Chicken and bell pepper sausage mixed with bell peppers and onions from the garden served on top of brown rice and steamed broccoli? Sounds like a winner to me. Where's my plate?

Week thirty one in the garden

A lot of you guessed where I was in yesterday's picture...Lake Tahoe. We had a pawesome weekend at one of my most favorite places. I can't wait to share pictures from our weekend. We got home a little later than usual. It was dark so we will post pictures of our veggie garden tomorrow. We can't wait to catch up on what happened over the weekend in DWB land.

Mommy and Daddy eat salad with dinner every night. Can you believe how fast lettuce grows?
I wonder if our butternut squash is ready to harvest.
Daddy thinks the jalapenos are almost ready.
Our sweet potatoes are doing great!
Here is our winter broccoli.
I'm so ready to eat this watermelon.
