Thankful Thursday

Guess what I have to be thankful for today? Mommy and Daddy woke us up really early today and told us that we were going on a road trip. To where? To our cabin. We were so excited. We could hardly wait to get there. Sierra and I napped for most of the car ride. When we woke up, I couldn't believe my eyes. There was snow everywhere!!! I wanted to get out of the truck and roll in it right away. As soon as we pulled up to our cabin, we jumped out of the car and ran around in the snow. I'm so thankful that we are here to ring in the New Year. I am also very thankful for all the friends that we have been so fortunate to meet this year via DWB. Your friendships are a blessing. Although we have never met face to face, we feel like we know you very well. The bond of friendship stands strong. Thank you for being such an important part of our lives.

Sierra's scoop

Hi there everyone, I hope you're having a great Tuesday. Today I tried on my new harness for car rides. I am very proud of it. There is soft white fur on the inside and it fits just right. Buckle me in and lets go. I used to wear Teddy Bear's puppy harness, but one day Daddy forgot to click in one side properly. It was poking me in my rib cage and really bugging me. So I chewed on it for a bit and then a little more just to soften it up and before I knew it I had accidentally swallowed a paw length piece of nylon strap. Ooopsie! It took a week for me to regurgitate it so believe me I'll never let that happen again. Mommy was pretty upset at first but then said she was just glad I was alright. Mommy and Daddy were too frugal to buy a harness for me. They didn't want me to ruin another harness by swallowing a piece of it. Guess what? They went to Petco the other day and saw my new harness. It didn't have a price tag so they went to ask the manager how much it would be and he said $5 since it was discontinued. It was too good to pass up. I really enjoy being free in the car but Daddy's says safety first!

Today's surprise...

...was great! Daddy decided to take a play-cation day today. That meant playing all day with Daddy. Yayyyy! But first we worked on cleaning the garden. We pulled weeds. We cut down the tomato plants. We stirred up the compost and spread the dirt around our yard. Now there is hardly anything left of our veggie garden. We cleaned up everything except for the parsley and the strawberry plants. Daddy said they will soon be going into pots to keep them safe until next year. I could still smell some of the goodness left behind by all our veggies from this year. I decided to double check the strawberry plant to make sure there wasn't any fruit. I felt a rain drop and it made me blink. Daddy said it was time to go inside. Our work for the day was done and it was time to wait for the rain to go away so we could go for our walk.

Our first Sunday...

...without the garden. Well folks, we couldn't clean up the garden like we wanted to because it was too muddy back there. Whenever it rains the backyard is off limits. There's a good reason for that too. When I was a just a pup Mommy let me go out there during a storm and as you can see I did more than just leave some pee mail. The first time I drank rain water it was life changing. It tasted so yummy coming right out of the down spout from the rain gutters. I felt so energized by nature that I kind of lost control and started doing big zoomies around the yard and through the muddy grass. That's when I lost my pawing and slipped right into a big mud puddle. Straight to the bath I went and I really don't like bath time. Have any of you slipped into a mud puddle? Daddy says he has a surprise for me but he won't tell me what it is until tomorrow. Oh boy, I can't wait!!!

P.S. It got really hot while Mommy was cooking dinner so she opened the back door for me. I went to the backyard and it didn't seem that muddy. I managed to bring in a little of the mud with me. Nobody's perfect, right?

The day after Christmas...

...was spent playing and playing with our new toys. Mommy still has to operate on the squeaky bone toy. Sierra and I took turns playing with the squeaky whale and the disk rope toy. I started destroying the disk rope toy so Daddy put it away until tomorrow. We had a great walk today. Daddy said the rain was coming so we were glad to get our walk in. We got an extra treat after dinner tonight. Beef tendons. Mommy and Daddy don't understand how we can enjoy them. They say they're too stinky. Sierra and I love them though. I really really enjoyed mine. Mommy tried to get a picture of Sierra with hers but she likes to hide when she's eating hers. How did you all spend the day after Christmas?

P.S. The rain came tonight.

Fun on a Friday

Merry Christmas, everyone!!! I hope everyone had a fun and wonderful day. Sierra and I had a lot of fun opening presents today. We got a very special package from our dear friend, Siku. Inside was a beautiful Christmas card with photos of Siku and her pawesome pawrents. She also sent us two bags of delicious cookies from Dugans Barkery. One bag of Hana's Hearts and one bag of Kona's Kisses. I think Santa liked his cookies and milk. He brought us a soft squeaky bone, a squeaky wheel, and a disk rope toy. Maybe we'll share more photos of our new toys tomorrow.:) It took me less than five minutes to break through our new soft squeaky bone. Mommy hopes to operate on it and piece it back together. Do you like our attempt at a family photo? Daddy says the results are priceless!

Thankful Thursday

Merry Christmas Eve, everyone! This really is the MOST wonderful time of the year. It's time for family get togethers, baked goodies, Daddy having extra days off, waiting to see the white stuff, and waking up to see what Santa Claus brought for me...I mean for us. I hope he loves the cookies and milk that we are leaving for him. I am very thankful for my pawesome pawrents and sister, Sierra. I think Sierra is really going to miss the Christmas lights. It's such a wonderful celebration for my favorite part of the year. Winter!!!

Sierra's Scoop

Uncle Bey Bey came home with Mommy yesterday. Grandma said it was not safe for him at home after the bad guys broke in. So he'll be visiting for a few days. Uncle Bey Bey brought his bed and is favorite blanket. I wish he brought his squeaky bone. Teddy and I have been trying to get our paws on it for as long as I can remember. Uncle Bey Bey usually hides it whenever we come over. One thing is for sure...with all these boys in the house, I don't have a moment of privacy. I'm going to my room now.

Mad on a Monday

Something really terrible happened today. Some really bad people broke into Grandma and Grandpa's house this morning. They took lots of things. We're so glad that Grandma and Grandpa weren't home. Poor Uncle Bey Bey though...he must've been so scared at someonr kicking open the door and having a stranger walk in. When Grandpa got home, Uncle Bey Bey could not stop shaking. The police officers came but their was not enough evidence to catch the bay guys. The door looks dirty but it's the stuff the CSI police officer used to see if there were any prints. Everyone, please be careful and beware.

Week thirty nine in the garden

Going, going, gone! After thirty nine weeks, our wonderful veggie garden has come to an end. Today we helped Daddy break down the tomato plants to turn them into compost. Our veggie garden brought us bountiful harvests for the last thirty nine weeks. We've been blessed with great weather and with Daddy's green thumb. Tonight we had the last of the bounty from our garden. Mommy made mashed sweet potatoes with parsley to go along with steak and salad. We still have a lot of parsley left. We are already looking forward to gardening next year.

What's this...

...boxes I can't open yet? Really? We've had two packages delivered this week but Mommy says we can't open them. I know there are good things in there. How, you ask? I can smell something familiar but I just can't put my paw on it. Daddy says it will be worth the wait. To all my friends in the East, I hope you are having fun with all that snow!!!

Fun on a Friday

Today we watched a movie called, "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer." Mommy said I remind her of Rudolph because of my pink nose. Daddy thought it would be cute to make us look like reindeer. Seriously. He convinced Mommy to buy us these little antlers. Our pawrents thought we looked SO cute. Sierra and I were good and let them have their fun. I'm sure they'll make it up to us this weekend. They already rewarded us with Mommy's homemade cheese crackers.

Thankful Thursday

Guess what Mommy made for dinner tonight? Swedish meatballs with pasta. Do you see the little meatballs on the edge of Mommy's plate? Those are for Sierra and me. I am so thankful for all the yummy food that Mommy makes us...especially these meatballs. She made them small just for us. You can see how big she made the ones for her and Daddy. I couldn't have a taste of those though...they had shallots in them. Thanks, Mommy for always thinking of us.

Sierra's Scoop

I think Christmas is the prettiest time of the year. All the glowing lights, the pretty colors, the wonderful smell of Christmas trees. Not to mention...all the baked goodies that people start gifting this time of year. We see this house on our walk every day/night. It reminds me of a giant gingerbread house. What do you think? Could you imagine if it really were a gingerbread house? I could invite you all over for a pawty. Oh what a feast it would be...a girl can dream, can't she?

Azure Standard Monday

We got our monthly order from Azure Standard today. Look at all the goodies...soap, raspberry kefir, steel cut oats, cinnamon, a huge box of apples, garlic, and brown rice. I hope those apples are for my apple sauce. More rain is expected this week. I'm no too happy about it but rain means snow in the mountains. I can't wait to get up there to play in it. Have any of my friends had snow lately?

Week thirty eight in the garden

Mommy went out back to the veggie garden today. She couldn't believe the devastation first frost had left behind. It almost made her laugh. Good thing the parsley is still going strong. Mommy will need lots of it to make chicken and beef stock. Daddy says parsley is like the Energizer Bunny...it keeps going and going....

Walking in the Rain

It's been raining for the passed few days. Fortunately, the rain clears up right when Daddy gets home so we've been able to go for our walks. We thought the rain was done for today so we went for a walk. It started raining in the middle of our walk so we ran home. Mommy slowed us down so she could capture us on video. Soon after she said, "Cut," we all started running again. We were all super wet! I wish it was snow instead of rain.

To all of our Jewish friends, Happy First Day of Hanukkah!

Fun on a Friday: Mission Pawsible Part 3

Mission San Juan Bautista is very old. It was founded in 1797. Construction on the current building began in 1803. We had a great tour of the grounds while waiting for our friends. Look at how old the brick archway is. This giant bell hangs at the entrance of the Mission. The historic El Camino Real (The Kings Highway) lies behind the Mission. El Camino Real served as a road the missionaries used to travel. All 21 missions are on this ancient trail. I'm so glad that we were able to walk on it. All the doors in the Mission have cat holes so the cats can chase away all the mice that like to visit from the fields. Because the Mission lies along the San Andreas fault, it needed to be restored after a bad earthquake in the 1800's. During the reconstruction, workers laid out wet tiles to dry in the sun. Coyotes must have wanted to get to the cats or the mice because they left an imprint on dozens of tiles that are now spread throughout the main church floor. There were people camping out in front of the Mission. Look at those funny chairs. I wonder if they're comfortable? Daddy worked hard all day filming. We had fun with Mommy exploring this historic monument.
