It's like Christmas...

...in February!!! That's what Mommy said anyway. We were beyond excited to see an envelope from our favorite seed bank. Flowers, veggies, and fruits, oh my. We are very anxious to get our veggie garden started. Lets put our green paws to work and get to work, Mommy and Daddy!

Week twenty four in the garden

Oops, we let this zucchini get a little too big. It's amazing how much they can grow in just two days.

Green tomatoes...

...red tomatoes. They're everywhere right now.

We started the cucumbers a little late but we're hoping to see a lot of these before First Frost.

We have another red mini bell pepper!!! There are about ten peppers that have yet to change color.

This pomegranate tree needs to go into the ground. We're having a tough time finding the pawfect place.

We didn't have room to plant sweet potatoes this year. The slips are doing so well that we're wondering if there is a way to keep them alive until next May/June.

We harvested the onions and they are ready to go into tomato night's dinner.

Week twenty three in the garden

A butterfly visited our garden today.

This onion looks ready to harvest.

We've been harvesting loads and loads of tomatoes. Mommy needs to get busy roasting them.

Our cucumber plants look great but we've yet to see a cucumber.

Look who finally turned red this week. We're so excited about our first mini bell pepper.

Week twenty two in the garden

Our zucchini plant is doing great this year. We're thrilled since we didn't have success with them last year.

Does anyone know what this flower is called? Our friend gave us bunches of them to plant. They sure are pretty.

Boy do oranges grow fast!

Flowers on potato plants indicate healthy growth underground. We are thinking that there may be a few potatoes that are ready for harvest.

Week twenty one in the garden

We were given this lucky bamboo starter plant by one of our friends. Daddy is still trying to figure out where to plant it. In the mean time, it's growing very nicely.

Daddy could hardly believe his eyes when he peeked through the strawberry plants today. Is it possible that we'll be having a strawberry harvest soon?

There are so many little bells on our pepper plant. We're still waiting for them to change colors. We're anxious to see if they'll be red or orange or perhaps another color.

These little cherry tomato clusters make Mommy very happy.

Week nineteen in the garden

We're going to have much cooler weather this week. We hope this means that the broccoli will flourish while Mr. Sun is away.

Look at who made a comeback? We couldn't believe our eyes when we saw how well the basil sprung back from the dead.

Our oranges are about the size of tangerines right now. We're surprised at how fast they grow. We're waiting for these mini bells peppers to turn color. It should be any day now.

Week seventeen in the garden

It's supposed to be in the 90's this week. We've got our paws crossed that this broccoli will beat the heat. Daddy planted tons of beet seeds yesterday. We hope to see little seedlings very soon. Our potato tunnel is doing great. We can't wait to see how many potatoes are under all that dirt. We've got some Romas that are almost ready for harvest!!! My sniffer tells me that Daddy just put down some organic citrus fertilizer. I've gotta figure out how to get underneath that mulch so I can roll around in that fertilizer.

Week sixteen in the garden

Hi everyone, we hope your weekend was full of joy. We live in a very windy city. There is always a breeze blowing through, but at times it can be a bit gusty. Daddy said it might rain tomorrow so of course it was extra windy today. Unfortunately one of our our patio shades did not survive. We just put them up a few weeks ago so we are all very disappointed. Good thing we staked our Baby Bell's pepper plant because it has these little babies growing. Since it is our first time growing this variety, we have no idea how big they will grow before they start to ripen. We hope it's sooner than later. Even though there aren't a lot of them, the carrots are getting really big. Last year they were so small I could eat one in a single bite but not this year. Hooray for limes. I just love the shade from the lime tree. We definitely planted it in just the right spot so I can relax by the garden on sunny days. The bad thing about limes as Sierra always likes to point out is that they really don't make good chew toys.

Week fifteen in the garden

Just look at these beauties. I think we're on track for lots and lots of tomatoes this summer. (Mommy is doing a happy dance).

Our second crown of broccoli looks just about ready to harvest.

Looks like someone likes our basil as much as we do. Maybe we'll have better luck next year.

Week fourteen in the garden

Mommy loves hydrangeas. They are one of her favorites. She's been wanting them for a while and finally bought some from our favorite vendor at Farmer's Market. I think I know just where to put it.

We're so relieved that this batch of radishes are doing well. Our last batch didn't survive. Daddy blames it on the seeds

Mommy thinks the baby limes are adorable.

We've got a whole lotta thyme on our hands.

Week twelve in the garden

Today was a busy day of transplanting. First we started with the brandywine tomatoes.

Then came the basil. It is so tiny now that it's hard to believe it will grow to be as big as us.

Last but not least were the mini bells. They look ready to flower already.

Mommy might harvest this radish for dinner tomorrow.

Daddy, are you going to let me in so I can snoopervise?

Week eleven in the garden

The broccoli leaves look amazing and huge. We hope the broccoli crown will show up before the weather gets too hot.

As always, the kale outshines everything else in our garden.

Can you believe this is the flower that's on top of our green onions right now? Mommy thinks it is very pretty.

Our tomatoes were a major fail last year. (This was common with a lot of backyard farmers we know). But this year they look well on their way to producing lots and lots of fruit.

We are thrilled to be seeing tons of strawberries. We can already taste them.

The chives had a rough start last year. We've heard people say that everything does better the second year. We're so glad the chives stuck it out. Mommy loves cooking with chives...creme fraiche quiche, herbed eggs, mashed sweet potatoes, roasted veggies...the possibilities are endless.
