Week eighteen in the garden

Today might have been the best Sunday of the summer. The weather was not too hot, most of the yard work was finished yesterday, and Mommy and Daddy were both home all day so we had lots of together time, lots of snack time, and even more belly rub time than ever. As you can see our garden is doing very well.

The cucumber plant keeps spreading out and is now crawling across the little fence around the garden.

They sure are growing slowly.

I really love the colors of our lettuce. They might be the prettiest edible plants out there.

It looks like some little black bugs found the broccoli flowers before Daddy did.

We also harvested all of our beets and carrots yesterday so today we planted more beets, and carrots, and also some spinach.

These little pepper plants are finally starting to come back after Daddy almost killed them by not watering them enough during our last heat wave.

Our corn is starting to flower already so we will definitely be enjoying corn on the cob very soon.

Our cherry tomato trellis is starting to really fill out with little green balls.

Our oranges are almost full size so we hope they will start turning color soon.

Daddy's dream home

This is our Daddy's dream home. It's kind of silly but he loves this house because it is on every box of See's Candies. If you're not from the western part of America you might not know about See's but it's Daddy's absolutely favorite chocolate. Every special occasion Mommy buys a whole box filled with his favorite ones, Bordeaux. He must really love them because they smell like butter and milk to me. Too bad chocolate is poison for dogs cause sharing is caring, Daddy.

For free on a Friday

Look what Mommy found. It's a really nice kiwi crate. The best part was that it was free. Mommy scours the local Freecycle listings for things we want or might need and when she saw this listed she knew it would serve us well. The possibilities are endless. It looks like a little raised bed for gardening or even a just a neat bed for me or Sierra to nap in. It could make a great new toy box too. We will have to wait and see...

Waiting to go for a walk

Hi everyone Teddy Bear here. I would like to share this photo of me in our garage waiting to go on a walk. I like to wait here when I know it's almost time to go. Mommy doesn't know why this photo came out so blurry but Daddy said that blurry photos always remind him of the legend of Bigfoot. Over the years, no one has ever been able to take a clear photo of the elusive monster so some might wonder if in fact Bigfoot is a just a big blurry dude. Well, in that case, I must be the abominable snowman. Look out, here comes an "out of focus" scary white monster.

Sierra's Scoop

Happy Tuesday, everyone...it's Sierra! We hope you've all had a great start to your week. We've had a bit of cooler weather since yesterday which has been very nice. We hope the rest of the country has been able to enjoy a break from the heat wave as well. Last night was just like any other night. There we were, all getting ready for bed. All of a sudden, Daddy let out a scream and went to get the camera and a shoe to get the huge spider that was hanging out in our room. Look at the size of that thing. We're so glad Daddy saved us from that icky bug. Ew.

Saving Sheba

This little girl is from a troubled home. Her name is Sheba. Both pups and several children were taken from their Mom. That is all we know. Our Auntie Kim told us about Sheba and said she looks just like us but darker. She is a beautiful fourteen month old Keeshond who is in need of a loving furever home. She has a very sweet temperament. She is currently in the San Francisco Bay Area. We wish we could have another sister but the city we live in has some stupid rule about only two dogs per household so we cannot adopt any more pups till we move to Alaska. I bet there are no dumb rules like that in Alaska. If you or or anyone you know can help Sheba, please let us know. Thank you for spreading the word.

Week seventeen in the garden

We're sad that we haven't seen any peppers on our pepper plant yet. We're not giving up hope though!

Look at how much the corn grew this week. There should be ears growing in no time.

There are tons of green cherry tomatoes. We are patiently waiting for them to turn "sun gold."

You know what all those pretty flowers mean. We've got tons of cucumbers coming!

We're very happy to see lots and lots more strawberries.

Once Mommy feels better, Daddy can't wait for her to make him some sun brewed tea so he can use some of our lemon balm.

So far we only have one sugar pumpkin...(insert sad face). We sure hope to see more before the season ends.

We hope everyone had a great weekend!

One potato, two potato, three potato, four....

We hope there are a lot more of you down there.

As you can see, this harvest was not as great as last year. Daddy thinks it might be the soil. Mommy thinks it's because the raised beds were restricting the potatoes from spreading out.

Way get your hands dirty, Daddy. Maybe you would like to use gloves next time? Mommy never lets me come into the house with hands that dirty.

Fearless Friday

We had to share this video of these brave pups from way down under in Australia. As if swimming with sharks is not enough, these two dogs even try to bite them in the tail. Wow...all I can say is awesome!

P.S. Mommy is feeling a little better but she is still running a slight fever.

We've been having...

...such a cool summer. But we knew it was bound to happen. The hot weather worked its way back to California. Even though were not having a heat wave like some places right now, that normal summer time feeling of being both hot and dry has finally arrived. I am even more sad that Mommy is still not feeling better yet. Her temperature peaked over 103 degrees tonight. Daddy, Sierra, and I all went for a long walk while Mommy napped. Her temperature looks to be dropping but we will be monitoring it closely all night. Please keep your paws crossed that she gets better soon and we'll be sure to visit your blogs once she gets better. We sure do miss everyone.

Sierra's Scoop

Happy Tuesday everyone, it's Sierra! Mommy was still not feeling one hundred percent today. One minute she was hot then the next she was cold. I was trading off with Teddy every once in while to make sure one of us was always at her side. On a lighter note, last night Teddy and I were both put on high alert when we heard a ruckus from outside. Daddy quickly grabbed his flashlight and pulled the screen door open for us to go see who, if anyone was there. Guess what we found? A freakishly hideous, downright disgusting possum. It was walking across our fence toward our garden so Teddy and I growled and let out some vicious barks but that only made the little marsupial freeze in his tracks. Thankfully, the hose was already laying out so Daddy sprayed him in the face till he scurried away. Daddy said he might eat the fruits and veggies in our garden so I hope that ugly little thing never comes back ever again!

Mommy...

is not feeling well. She was warm last night but by this morning Mommy had a fever. I stayed by her side all day night. The temperature shown here was after the worst of it passed, and I am happy to report that after a few Advil, Mommy is showing signs of improvement.

Week sixteen in the garden

Sixteen long weeks and we've only harvested a small basket of cherry tomatoes! What is going on around here? We've got basil on the way.Let's get with it Daddy. Mommy needs to make some marinara sauce already. Since we were still packing for our big move when we should of been sowing seeds, our garden is a little behind schedule. The San Marzano plants keep growing and growing but have yet to bear any fruit.
On the other hand, it's starting to look a lot like Thanksgiving around here. We have ripening sugar pumpkins and mini stalks of corn growing oh so well.
Speaking of things growing well, look at our romaine. It is really doing better than we ever expected. Daddy has finally redeemed himself in the lettuce growing department. It only took him a few seasons to get it right but you know what they say...better late than never.
I love how fast zucchini grows. I bet if I just stared at it all day long I would totally see it get bigger.
On the other hand, it doesn't look like the cucumbers have grown a bit since last week so we will have to wait and see how long they take to grow. Hopefully it's not too long.

There's a giant, orange ball...

...in the sky. This is what Daddy heard when Mommy called tonight. She was frantic because she had no idea what it was. Was a huge lit up hot air balloon that was floating through our city? Daddy told Mommy it was the Moon. We were really close to it tonight so no need to worry, Mommy.

Friday Night Lights

Did you know that when you move into a home there are about a bazillion projects to do? We are on number one hundred and something on that list of a bazillion. Daddy hung up these lights tonight.

Mommy has been saving them for over ten years. She bought them a long time ago at her first job when she worked at some barn that made pottery. I think Daddy did a great job and the lights look pretty cool.

During our hike...

...along the Truckee River, we saw tons of beautiful furry friends.

We loved the goatee on this little guy.

Look at these gorgeous Siberians. I think they are the biggest woofies I've ever seen. We spent lots and lots of time sniffing and getting to know each other. We even hiked along the river with them for a while.

This is one of Mommy's favorite pictures from the weekend. We loved watching this beautiful Golden dive into the river to fetch her stick...over and over and over again. It was very cool to see!

Do you love saying hi to new friends during your walks/hikes?

Sierra's scoop

Happy Tuesday, everyone. It's Sierra! Whenever I drink from our Polar Bottle, water always splashes on my toes. And just to let you know...I am really not a big fan of getting wet under any circumstances. This weekend while we were at Lake Tahoe, Daddy really wanted me to go swimming. So he found this pawfect stick and started tossing it into the lake. At first, my front feet barely were getting wet but every time I fetched it he would answer by throwing it out a little further. I didn't give up though... even when the waves were crashing over my face and I was standing in neck deep water. Maybe next time I will try to do the Doggy Paddle.

So...

...we went to Lake Tahoe this weekend and had a blast. We were there with lots of friends and had a great time just hanging out, eating, and going to the beach.

Mommy and Daddy also took us on a scenic stroll along the Truckee River.

Daddy wanted to go fishing but we got a little lost on the way so instead we just walked down the river to look for a shady spot for us to relax by the river and wade in once and a while to cool off. I love the cold but that river was fast and cold. That combination makes it very dangerous.
You can still see the snow on the mountains...oh how I wished and wished I could get to that snow! \
Lake Tahoe's water level was much higher than normal. I could tell the lake was full because there was almost no beach and I couldn't even run under the pier for some shade by the water.

We hope you all had a pawesome weekend!
