Week twenty eight in the garden

Happy Labor Day. We finally arrived home after a long weekend of camping at Eagle Lake. Once we were unpacked we all ran to the garden to check what had grown the most. The Baby Bells,
and cherry tomatoes are growing so well that Mommy has been using them in all of Her and Daddy's lunches and dinners.
We are all out of store bought kale so as long as it keeps growing like this we will be just fine.
All four of the zucchini growing are still pretty small but I'm betting that they will make it to the dinner table this week.
Even though there are too many for me to count, Mommy said we can never get enough cucumbers. If you didn't already get enough of our weekend camp stories, tomorrow Sierra will tell you her scoop about our Labor Day trip.

Happy Labor Day

Today we went to Grandpa's house for his birthday pawty. He turned sixty two years old last Tuesday...so he invited some family over to his house for a barbecue.
There was tons of great food but the cake was covered in chocolate so Sierra and I skipped dessert.

Grandpa was super excited when he opened his present. It was a gift card to go flying in a biplane with a stunt pilot that will take him on a tour around the San Francisco bay.
Grandpa has always had a passion for flying. When he was in his twenties he almost earned his pilots license but because of his expanding family and expanding business he didn't have the time to keep it up. So fast forward to the late nineties when Grandpa was finally pursuing his dreams and again was about to fulfill his requirements to earn his license when he was diagnosed with cancer. He had been having stomach pains that became so debilitating that he couldn't fly solo safely. Today Grandpa is ten years cancer free and healthier than ever but flying is just a little too expensive for him now that he is planning his retirement. It sounds like this will be a ton of fun for him. I can't wait to hear about his flight. It sure was nice to relax in Grandpa's little back yard oasis. I especially liked the misters hanging everywhere. They really helped us all stay really cool. (If you look closely, you can see some of the misters behind Daddy).

How did you spend Labor Day?

Week twenty eight in the garden

All of our lettuce are in full bloom.
Our butternut squash plant stretch all the way across the garden and climbed its way up to the wisteria tree.
Our biggest butternut squash is beginning to change color.
The strawberries are still coming along.
We hope our watermelon is ready to be harvested soon.
There are still quite a few zucchini growing.
And lots of marvel stripe heirloom tomatoes.
Look at the size of our perilla plant. It's bigger than me!
Our basil plant is bigger than me too. Mommy needs to get busy and make some pesto with all this basil.
And our lovely sweet potatoes. They are doing great.
We hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend!!!
