Sierra's Scoop

It is always nice to receive a postcard in the mail. But on this occasion, I'm not so sure. It sounds like Dr. Johnson wants to give me another shot of medicine and that is not ok with me. I know I need it but I don't want it. I hope Teddy Bear goes with me, that way I won't be the only scaredy cat in the waiting room. Hee hee.

Opossum update

The Opossum was back and it brought a friend. Daddy has noticed that something has been munching on a few of our flower beds. So tonight when I alerted Daddy that something was making noise outside he grabbed a flashlight and the hose. One opossum scurried across the roof and into a neighbors tree. Daddy used the hose at full strength to blast the other one right off the fence. We're leaving the lights outside on tonight to deter them from coming back. Sierra has volunteered to sleep outside tonight so she can watch over and to protect our garden. Thanks, little Sister.

Week twenty two in the garden

I am ready to shuck some corn, is it ready? How can you tell when it's done?

Heirloom alert! Looks like better late than never is going to prove to be true.

This is still my personal favorite. I can't wait for Mommy to slice one of these little peppers.

Mommy said there are never enough cucumbers growing but Daddy said that one was better than none.

I wish Daddy could make these San Marzano tomatoes hurry up and grow big already. Instead we'll have to wait!

The Grandma and Bey Bey reunion

Today I thought we were all going to see Grandma at Fairmont Rehabilitation Hospital, but instead we went to uncle Bey Bey's house. Sierra and I stayed with Auntie Sheila while Mommy and Daddy took uncle Bey Bey to go visit Grandma. She said she was feeling a little better today and was very glad to see every one. She didn't see Uncle Bey Bey for nine whole days so Grandma was especially happy to see him. She even started to cry when Mommy told her that uncle Bey Bey was waiting outside for her. That was the best part of the day for Mommy and Daddy. The worst part was when Mommy left her house keys on grandpa's counter so after driving all the way home ( only 45 minutes) we turned around and did it all over again. So when we finally arrived home a little after 12:20 am, we were totally exhausted. Mommy hit the couch, Daddy laid on the floor under the ceiling fan, and while Sierra was jumping onto the other couch I was laying down next to Daddy. After we took a short little midnight nap, Mommy got up to give me my vitamins and Daddy had to go change a bulb in the motion light in the front of our house. Today was a long day so I am looking forward to good night sleep. See you all tomorrow.

Fun on a Friday

Guess who is visiting for a couple days? Its uncle Bey Bey, Grandpa went to Mexico for a day and Grandma is still at the rehabilitation hospital recovering from her stroke. We had a great time hanging out and playing. How was your day?

Thankful Thursday

Today, I just wanted to tell everyone how wonderful my Mommy is. She is always there for me when I need her. She makes all my yummy snacks and prepares my dinner every night. She is the first person I see when I wake up and the last person I look at before I go to sleep. She is such a hard worker too, sometimes it seems like she might be too tired to pay attention to me after a long day. That's when Mommy surprises me and says, "Lets go for a walkie walkie or "Teddy want some jerky jerky?" I am very thankful for my Mommy. What are you thankful for today?

Sierra's Scoop

Have you seen anything like this before? It's a circular dead spot in our backyard. Daddy tried blaming it on Teddy and me but we blame it on the Aliens. It makes sense that a UFO landed in our yard and left a dead spot for us to admire...right? Daddy has been watering it for weeks and is still no sign of green grass. He's going to break down and order some grass seeds to see if it helps. We told him not to bother since we think the Aliens will be visiting again soon. Do any of you have a dead spot in your yard?

***Grandma Update: Grandma was transferred to a Rehab Facility today. She still has limited use of her right arm and right leg so please continue to keep your paws crossed for a full recovery.

Monday Madness

Our refrigerator is about to burst. Daddy saw how stuffed it was and said he was too scared to even try to pull anything out. This is what happens when the Cactus Cafe takes over your kitchen. Both Grandpa and Mommy were out running around after work, trying to find all the fresh produce they need for the cafe. Since Mommy had to pick food up all over the place she had to store it here for tonight. Normally Grandma does all the shopping but for now she cannot so Mommy and Grandpa are filling in. It hasn't been easy though, Mommy woke up at five o'clock this morning and was off and running. She didn't come home for almost twelve hours. It amazed me how she still was able to prepare our home cooked dinner and then make Daddy yummy chicken tacos. After our walk Mommy was looking a little sleepy so Daddy did the dishes while she relaxed on the couch. My Grandma is one hard worker. It takes three people to do what she does every day.

***Grandma update: Grandma might be moving to a rehabilitation hospital some time this week. She walked around with her physical therapist today but the feeling in her leg has not improved. After her walk she was feeling a little dizzy so she definitely needs constant supervision. Thank you all for your prayers and best wishes. And we promise to visit all your bloggies just as soon as things slow down a bit for all of us. We sure do miss everyone!

Week twenty one in the garden...

what a coincidence that today is August 21st. Our garden looks great but it probably feels a little neglected since we haven't been spending much time out there lately. Here come the San Marzano tomatoes and boy are the pointy. Thankfully, Mommy picked up a few Sun Gold Cherry tomato plants otherwise we would still be waiting for our first ripe one. The Sweet Corn is about seven feet tall now and it looks like we will have some yummy Sweet Corn this year for sure.
Lately, we have been seeing these Cabbage White Butterflies in our yard. Mommy read that they are attracted to broccoli but Daddy hasn't figured out if they are a pest yet so their fate is still to be determined. Daddy said if they are like the moths around here they can't stay. Sierra and I have a favorite new variety in our garden this year and our Sweet bell pepper plants are it. They have dark purple fruit that turns red when fully ripe. Mommy has seen purple bells at the farmers market so we might pick some early before they fully turn. We will be sure to tell you all about them as soon as we harvest one. I have a new found respect for them after what Daddy made these little plants go through. After not watering them for a few weeks they were looking so wilted that I was embarrassed to take pictures of them to show you. Just look at them now, their must be six peppers on one plant.

***Grandma Update***Grandma feels the same today as she did yesterday. Please pray that the swelling in her brain continues to go down and for full recovery in her right arm and right leg.

Grandma Update

My Grandma is not better yet. Today she was having a hard time walking around after falling twice this morning. She must not have seen the sign on the wall that says, "Call, don't fall." Tonight she had another CT scan and the swelling in her brain is causing her imbalance. Daddy said Grandma's hospital room has a nice view. He said he could see the entire Golden Gate Bridge across the San Francisco bay. We are very thankful for the wonderful scenery to help soothe Grandma's recovery. Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers. By now they are coming in from all over the world. Please continue to keep your paws crossed for a full recovery.

An Update

Thank you all for your encouraging and loving words for our Grandma. Tonight she was finally moved from Critical Care to a regular hospital room. Her right leg is still numb and she is still unable to hold anything with her right hand. She has made some progress since yesterday so that is great news. Grandpa said that she walked around a bit with the help of a cane. We all have our paws crossed that she'll be able to go home tomorrow. Uncle Bey Bey must be worried sick about her. Please continue to keep your paws crossed for complete healing for our Grandma. We miss reading your bloggies and hope to catch up with you all this weekend.

The Power of the Paw

Our Grandma is not doing well. We were all woken up at 6:00 this morning by Grandma calling Mommy to tell her that she wasn't feeling well and that Mommy needed to get to work earlier than usual. When Mommy got there Grandma was starting to show symptoms of a person having a stroke. So Grandma was rushed to the hospital where they found some bleeding in her brain. She is feeling a little better now that she has been stabilized but she is spending the night in the critical care section of the hospital. Mommy went to see her right after work and said her spirits were up but she wanted everyone to go home and rest since it had been a such a traumatic day. Poor Uncle Bey Bey, he must be wondering where his Mommy is.

Sierra's Scoop

Happy Tuesday everyone it's Sierra. Last Sunday, Mommy and Daddy went to go see the musical My Fair Lady. They went with Auntie Kim and Uncle Sean to celebrate Uncle Sean's birthday. Everyone agreed that it was a great performance. I have never been to a play or a musical but I did star in a drama the other day when I tried tried to steal the new ball back from Teddy Bear. You can always expect drama when King Teddy doesn't get his way.

Harvest Monday

Today was a very exciting day in our home. We harvested our very first cucumber of the season. I mean it's only August after all. We hope to harvest a few more before First Frost hits northern California. We'll keep our paws crossed but Daddy says there's no telling what the weather will bring. Daddy thinks we'll have summer weather for a while before First Frost hits. You know I'm hoping for just the opposite.

Week twenty in the garden

Happy Sunday everyone. Here is our weekly edible garden update. Mommy was very pleased to see a few of these baby bell peppers growing.

Growing next to the peppers are these beautiful cherry tomatoes...

and of course we can't forget about the kale and the basil

and oregano.

Oh boy, oh boy. Doesn't it look like this broccoli is almost Ready to eat? I think it's doing quiet well for a plant that doesn't like the summer heat.

The cucumber plant has made it to the end of our little fence so now we'll have to wait and see where it is going to grow to next.

I don't like to say I told you so but the corn started peaking over the fence this week just as I had predicted. I can't wait till next week to tell you more about our wonderful little backyard garden.

I hope everyone has a great Monday.

Project Day

Number 321 on Mommy and Daddy's bazillion list of projects was getting a new sliding glass door since the latch on our old door broke last week. Daddy met Grandpa at Home Depot bright and early this morning so they could get to work. Bye bye, old door.

Door number one went in without a hitch.

Door number two in. Daddy and Grandpa checked and double checked everything to make sure that our new door was secure. All that's left is to put the trim back where it belongs.

Today's project didn't take nearly as long as we thought it would. That left us with plenty of time to play, get belly rubs, go for a long walkie and of course our favorite, treat time. We hope you're all having a fantastic weekend.

Friday Festivities

Watcha got cookin' there, Daddy? Hamburger patties? We see five of them and there are only four of us. I wonder who the fifth patty is for?

Look at the baby patties on the baby plates. I think they're for Sierra and me.

My mouth is watering. Hurry, Daddy!

Sierra loved it too.

What a great way to start the weekend!

I wonder...

...how long it will take for Mommy to notice that I'm ready for my snack? I hope it's not too long.

What is your favorite snack?

Sierra's Scoop

Hi everyone it's Sierra. Look what I found hiding in the closet today. There was a brand new ball stuffed into our toy basket. I'm usually not allowed to pull out new toys on my own but thank goodness the closet door was cracked open just a bit. That made it easier for me to open it and grab our new toy. Can you tell that I love it?

Truthful toothful

This may sound impawsible but both Sierra's and my toothbrush broke last night. Sierra's was the first to break, right before our bed time ritual time while Mommy was putting some paste on it. With a light snap her brush broke into three pieces. My brush didn't break until after brushing my teeth. While Mommy was spreading it apart so I could lick every last drop of my homemade toothpaste from between the little bristles, one of the sides broke off. I was as shocked as Mommy because this was already a new toothbrush to begin with. We took some pictures of the broken pieces before putting them into the trash but then somehow lost all of them. In the modern digital world lost photos actually mean accidentally deleted photos.

Week nineteen in the garden

Wow oh wow, it is August already? I can't believe how crazy of a year it has been. Weather has played a major role in delaying all of our crops this year. Thankfully until now the bugs haven't been too bad but recently something has been invading our garden and munching on our strawberries before I ever get to... Grrrrr. What's going on, Daddy? Put up that bird netting already. Sierra and I can't watch the garden all the time.
The cucumbers are finally getting big enough to harvest.

And the tomatoes are bearing plenty of cherry sun golds for all you can eat fresh garden salad.

I love the way corn grows so fast. It will be peaking over our really high fence any day now.

Our oranges still look like limes so Mommy says it looks like they will still be a while.
Kale, lettuce, basil and all of our other herbs are doing excellent in this wonderfully mild summer we're having in Northern California.

Daddy wanted to...

...make Mommy's truck look new again. He brought home something called Flitz. It was very stinky but Daddy said it works like magic. Boy was he right! Look at how the headlights looked before.

And look at them now. Wow...that is some good stuff, Daddy!

I think Mommy will love it.
